Univar Goes Digital with Annual Sustainability Report

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., Nov. 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Univar Inc. (NYSE: UNVR) ("Univar"), a global chemical and ingredient distributor and provider of value-added services, continues its commitment to operating with minimum impacts on the environment and society with the release of its 2016 Sustainability Report. The Company believes that as a responsible corporate citizen, it must continually analyze its performance, improve on execution and build from the progress it has made to date reducing waste and energy consumption, supporting local communities and strengthening its commitment to safety.

In the 2016 Sustainability Report, the Company captures its global efforts and achievements from across its operations, and the results are summarized in a compelling, digital format. Supporting the Company's commitment to implementing sustainable business practices, the digitized format allows users to access the report from a range of devices, without the environmental impacts of printing and distribution of a paper report.  The report covers all topics and aspects of sustainability across Univar's operations, including fiscal information, energy, emissions, water, waste, spills, employee and customer safety, and stakeholder engagement.

2016 highlights include:

  • Univar reduced its total carbon emissions by 3.02% from 2015, a 15.15% reduction per metric ton dispatched.
  • The Company reduced total energy use by 7.85%, with 42,898 MWh less used in 2016 than the prior year, saving the power equivalent of shutting down a medium-capacity coal power plant for 3.5 days.
  • Univar achieved a Total Case Incident Rate (TCIR) of 0.68 injuries per 200,000 hours worked, improving by nearly 30 percent over the prior record-setting year for safety.

The GRI is one of the world's most widely recognized sustainability reporting initiatives, and is the basis of sustainability reporting for other world leaders in the chemical industry.
